On the last day before winter break, high school students once again participated in a day of community giving back sponsored by the Student Activities group.

Many students worked on making fleece tie blankets. Thanks to a generous $1,200 grant from Great Lakes Energy's People Fund, we bought enough fleece from JoAnn in Traverse City to make 77 tie blankets! These will be donated to the Antrim County Baby Pantry so that each child who comes through the pantry with their family can choose a gift of warmth of their very own.

Other students had the opportunity to make cereal treats for our Antrim County first responders and dispatch crew. These treats were individually bagged and delivered before we left for break so those who worked during the holidays could enjoy a special treat from BHS.

A third group of high schoolers decorated popsicle snowflakes for the residents at Meadow Brook. By providing over 100 winter-themed decorations, we hope that each resident can add a little sparkle to their room to enjoy throughout the winter.

Finally, a small group of students worked on painting rocks so that, come spring time, we can deposit them around town. The hope is that individuals will find our creations and enjoy the moment that comes when finding a rock decorated like an emoji, a piece of fruit, or an intricate scene from a beloved movie. Watch for our rocks around downtown once the snow melts and the spring air returns!

We are so excited to be able to offer high school students this day of giving back each year and cannot wait to see what Student Activities comes up with next.
